SETH GODIN ON THE ICARUS MYTH

THE MYTH OF ICARUS

The myth of Icarus is a story from Greek mythology about a young man named Icarus who, with the help of his father Daedalus, escapes from captivity on the island of Crete by building wings made of feathers and wax. However, despite his father’s warning to fly too high, Icarus becomes overexcited and flies too close to the sun, causing the wax to melt and sending him plummeting to his death in the sea below.

THE LIE BEHIND THE MYTH

The problem is, this myth is a lie. In the real myth, Daedalus warns Icarus against flying too high OR too low. But over time, this myth has become a cautionary tale discouraging people from pursuing their ambitions ‘flying too high’, and encouraging them to keep their feet on the ground, lest they share the same fate as Icarus.

AND THUS ICARUS COACHING WAS NAMED

The founders of Icarus Coaching were inspired by Seth Godin’s timely reminder:
SO MANY PEOPLE ARE FLYING TOO LOW
Have the hubris to dream of something bigger!

WE WILL HELP YOU TO
FLY HIGHER
